One waitress teared up when she was handed a note at work.
“She [the customer who left the note] came in about halfway through my 17-hour shift, and it was on Sunday, which is always pretty busy,” said King. “About halfway through her meal, it started to slow down so we chatted for a few minutes. Small talk, nothing too deep. She told me she was almost 70 and has been slowing down a bit. – Newsweek.
While Megan King was working a shift as a waitress, she noticed a small woman eating alone at the table. Doing her best to service her like she normally would, the interaction seemed somewhat normal until the woman handed Megan a note.
It was a Sunday evening and the note came with her tip.
“She said she just wanted to stop by an old favorite for a bite,” King added.
Megan took two photos. The first one was of the note with the tip and the second of her face – she was sobbing! She got the note on Sunday but waited until Tuesday to post it on Twitter. Soon, it went viral.
The woman who was eating was out alone for her very first time.
After thinking back to the moment with the woman, it became clear to Megan that something was up. She wished she had asked more.
“In retrospect, I wish I would’ve taken her quiet as an invitation. I think that’s what she wanted, looking back,” said King. “She kept looking up at me so I assumed something wasn’t right with her meal or that she needed something.” – Newsweek
Her husband had just passed away and she didn’t get used to being alone.
Losing her husband recently, the woman had gone to her favorite restaurant to get some food. As she sat there, it dawned on her that she was alone and would eat a great many meals by herself in the future.
Megan wished she had done more to talk to the lady, but she didn’t know her circumstances.
We always wish we could do more in retrospect. Yet, even with wishing she did more, Megan clearly made an impact on the woman and warmed her heart a bit. As a result, Megan was able to help a woman that she didn’t even know needed it.
What truly a great reminder to treat people gently and with kindness! You never know what they are going through in their lives and your small act of treating them like a human can go a long way in making their day a whole lot better than it was.
