Carol Burnett’s Wedding Skit is Pure Hilarity and Joy

‘The Carol Burnett Show’ featured a hysterical skit in Season 9, Episode 7, where Carol plays a bride-to-be. It is the night before her ceremony, and all her girlfriends have gathered at a celebration in her honor.

The skit features terrific music and vocal harmonies by special guests, ‘The Pointer Sisters.’ The girls begin saying, “A toast to the bride-to-be,” and everyone toasts Carol.

Then, another says, “A toast to the groom-to-be,” and they drink again. Another shouts, “A toast to the honeymoon.” Finally, Vicki Lawrence, playing Carol’s mother, says, “A toast to my daughter’s virginity,” but Carol grabs her by the shoulder and sits her back down comically.

Carol is standing but wobbly, and she hiccups while saying, “A toast to all of my friends here. How much time do I have left?” At that moment, all the girls break into song and sadly sing, “There’s just a few more hours.”

Carol sings while laughing hysterically. She is wearing a bright yellow dress with a huge headband that matches. The music picks up speed, and ‘The Pointer Sisters’ sing glorious gospel harmonies while dancing and feeding Carol more booze.

Vicki Lawrence sings in an opera style as Carol’s older mother over top of the exciting, clap-along music. They all repeat the gospel-like refrain, ‘Get me to the church on time.’

Carol sings from under the table with just her legs sticking out. They lift the table, and Carol is drinking an entire bottle of wine. The rousing music stops as the dancers surround Carol, who is sitting on the floor. Carol sings alone, ‘Gotta get me to the church on…,’ and she collapses her head into her drink as the singers finish the rest of the phrase in an epic finale.
