Carol Burnett’s Blackmailing Girl Scout Returns with Bigger Laughs

‘The Carol Burnett Show’ featured the hysterical recurring character played by Carol known as ‘The Fireside Girl.’ It was a parody of the ‘Girl Scouts,’ only in these skits, Carol blackmails her potential customers.

Harvey Korman is walking through his messy house, filled with party decorations. He leans on a table and pours a drink but gets tangled in streamers.

The doorbell rings, and he says, “Go away. There’s nobody home.” He opens the door, and Carol starts yelling at him in a high-pitched annoying voice in her uniform.

She asks Harvey if he would contribute to sending a girl to the fireside camp. Carol keeps shaking the change bucket, and Harvey stops her because his head hurts from his hangover.

He says he has a cold and asks her to stop, and she responds, “Oh, a cold on top of that hangover?” Harvey gives her some money to go away, and she shouts sarcastically, “Oh, a whole nickel! How could I ever thank you?!”

He shoves her out the door and crushes her can, trying to close the door. She comes back in and blames him for her dented can. She tells him she’s making a list of who contributed and how much.

Harvey tells her to put him down as anonymous. Carol writes that next to 30 cents and “Apartment 6B,” exposing Harvey as a cheapskate. He gives her more money, and she thanks him and tells him she won’t tell anybody about the party he had last night. As she walks out the door, she says, “Or the picture I took.” Harvey closes the door looking terrified by his encounter.
