‘Carol Burnett’ when the background actors steals the show

Sometimes the background character steals the show from the leading lady or man. That’s precisely what happened on ‘The Carol Burnett Show,’ Season 5, Episode 9.

In this skit, Carol says, “Most actors in movies or television start their careers playing small parts or even as extras. And as extras, they are always hopeful of being discovered. And very often, they’ll do just about anything to attract attention.”

Then, she tells the audience to watch the background actor and see how they steal the scene without a single word. It transitions to a man and a woman sitting at a table talking about something severe.

Tim Conway walks in and sits at a table behind the two, and he looks at the camera and adjusts his seat so the camera can see him clearly. Tim waves and looks down.

The couple in front of Time keeps arguing, and Tim walks up to their table and grabs their sugar to fill his tea. He stands there and fills his cup all the way up while making interesting faces.

Then, Tim pulls out a newspaper that he folds into a hat. He puts it on his head, covers his face, and sips his tea. Tim Conway stole the show as only he can.

In another scene, two businessmen argue about severe matters while Carol is the background actress playing a secretary. She gets up to sharpen her pencil, turns her back to the camera, and shakes her butt. Then, she starts itching her legs and pulling her skirt up. Carol takes her wig off mid-scene, combs it, and even smacks Harvey Korman in his butt on the way out.
